Hey
I’m a mental Health nurse currently working in substance misuse here in Birmingham, am becoming increasingly suspicious of the health establishment pushing cognitivr behaviour therapy as the answer to folks’ woes.
It seem an orthiodoxy that this therapy is an effective, cheap, quick and efficient way for the nhs to get predominantly working class folks back to ‘proper functioning’, psychotherapy as practised hitherto seems to be viewed as to expensive and lengthy and only for the celebs and well off.
There seems little if any dissent on this view, i have seen only two bits critical, after much searching, and both of those were gentle. May be a case of emperors new clothes with this therapy?
My view for what it’s worth is that this approach is an opiate rather than a long term answer, it’s seems a cheap quick way to save on drug bills, old style therapy, sick benefit and anti poverty measures.
Ii other words like putting a tv in prisoners cells to keep them quiet. Sort of getting a tv repairer in cos there’s nothing on tv. if that makes sense.
Anyway any one else got a view?
Nobby

There looks to be useful tips at http://www.suspension-nhs.org/ (the Campaign Against Unnecessary Suspensions and Exclusions in the NHS) – might be worth a short post and/or be included in your links?
